THE ANDES MOUNTAINS

The Andes make up the longest mountain range in the world. The range has an incredible biological diversity. Depending on the altitude, orientation and exposure, we go from luxuriant tropical areas to the most arid terrains. Between 1,200 and 2,400 metres altitude on the slopes of sierras with heavy rainfall, the jungle becomes a luxuriant “forest of mist” sprinkled with palm trees, orchids and giant bamboo. A little higher, between 2,400 and 3,800 metres, we encounter a micro-climate similar to our temperate forests. Slowly, the undergrowth gives way to elfin forest. With the colder temperatures and wind, trees bend and wither and thorny shrubs take over. On these wild slopes, the hot season stretches from December to March. Here, working with local pickers initiated from their youngest age to the secrets of mushrooms, Magda® discovered exceptional picking spots. Yellow boletes, milk-cups and morels are collected and immediately cleaned, sorted and frozen on site.
